For people who wear glasses, the experience is not always as smooth as some might think. As with any type of sensory aid, a host of issues can make glasses an uncomfortable experience for patients. Here are some of the most common eye wear problems patients encounter, as well as quick and easy solutions for resolving them.
The most obvious complication is when patients are unable to see through their new glasses. Their vision can be blurry, which can cause headaches and other irritations. In most cases, this problem is the result of one of two factors: either the doctor made a mistake with the prescription, or the lens manufacturer erred when they prepared the lens. All reputable optical stores will correct this problem if you let them know that it exists.
On occasion, frames will refuse to stay in their proper place on the face, and will slide down the nose. This is usually the result of worn out frames or an improper fit. Check with your optical professional to determine whether a fit adjustment is needed or if it might be time to consider a new frame.
More people than ever are experiencing neck strains and headaches after extended time on their computers. This is a newer problem, of course, but it can usually be corrected with behavioral changes. Usually, patients just need to take regular breaks away from the screen. Where they cannot do so, it may be possible to relieve some strain by using reading glasses, especially in cases where the patient is wearing bifocals.
And while we're on the subject of bifocals, they can present their own difficulties, particularly during extended periods of reading. Often, eyes dry out when patients are staring at a page for an extended period of time. In most instances, reading problems can be corrected by ensuring that the eyes remain moist.
One other problem that many people encounter is that they find themselves regretting their frame style choice. The good news is that many optical providers will allow returns within a certain period of time after purchase. Always be sure to check with the store before making your purchase so you know what your options are.
Though there are many difficulties that can be encountered when wearing glasses, most can be corrected quite easily. The key is to consider your options, and call your doctor's office when you have questions that can't otherwise be answered. That can ensure that you get the help you need as quickly as possible.
